LUX festival project
LUX Festival, Project to be Submitted into the 2018 Festival We designed 4 specific suits that mimicid bioluminescence. The suits are made from El wire, Fibre optic cable and LED lights. We were fortunate enough to have Wettie (NZ's biggest wetsuit manufacturer) come onboard and help us with the development of the suits for the festival. The suits will be worn by 4 divers in the cut outs outside TePapa in Wellingtons harbour The narrative goes as such: Four figures in illuminated diving suits appear amongst the crowd, you notice their presence as they move towards the water, creating a stir in the gathered crowd. They make their way down into the water and begin to spread out in it, creating etherial, almost alien patterns. As you watch they disappear beneath the wharf, causing those watching to strain their necks to catch another glimpse. 20 seconds pass and then the figures appear again, this time even more brightly lit, much to the awe of the crowd. You watch as they move in synchronisation to exit the water once again and move through the crowd, this time giving them a good view of the lights. There will be 4/5 illume suits worn by 4/ 5 confident divers, they will spread out amongst the crowd. Each diver will turn on their fibre optic lights as they move. They will head towards the drop down platform, and start entering the water. Once they are all in the water they will spread out in different directions under the wharf out of sight. After 20 seconds of disappearing they will start coming back with their LED lights lit. They climb out of the water and move through the crowd. They will continue this process on loop 2 times every hour, 3-4 times a week repeating more on the weekends.
